eBay announced details of the 2004 eBay Developers Conference, the annual gathering of eBay and PayPal developers that will be held June 23-24 in New Orleans. The eBay Developers Conference will feature keynotes by Internet Pioneer and publisher Tim O'Reilly, eBay Founder Pierre Omidyar and eBay COO Maynard Webb.

Attendees will see the latest from eBay and PayPal new Web services offerings, the latest development tools and other resources that will enable them to create software solutions for automating and accelerate business processes, and create greater efficiencies for buying and selling on the eBay and PayPal platforms. The event also provides attendees with a unique opportunity to share ideas and gain insights from their colleagues in the developer community, as well as the eBay developer team. Five different tracks are being offered:

  • Track 1: Introduction to Developing on the eBay Platform, incorporating sessions for developers who are new to working with eBay.
  • Track 2: eBay Technologies: Advanced Topics, which cover the more complex aspects of the eBay platform, including catalog and attributes, notifications, and some new APIs that will be shared for the first time.
  • Track 3: Application Development Environments, consisting of sessions providing in-depth information specific to individual programming languages and environments, including SOAP, .NET and Java.
  • Track 4: PayPal Development, encompassing sessions, hands-on labs and roundtable discussions including the first in-depth exploration of PayPal Web Services.
  • Track 5: Building Your eBay Business, which provides resources, including access to a panel of investors who will address key funding questions, to help attendees grow and improve their businesses.

Tim O'Reilly will kick off the conference with a look at the killer applications of the Web era in his keynote entitled, "The Architecture of Participation." He will be followed by Maynard Webb, who will share insight into eBay's technology evolution and vision. Later in the conference, O'Reilly will join Omidyar for an "insider's" look at the future of eBay and PayPal platforms.

O'Reilly and Omidyar will also present awards to the winners of eBay's Star Developer Awards program, which honors the application that shows the most innovative use of the eBay Platform and the individual who has contributed the most to the eBay Developer community. The Developers Conference immediately precedes eBay's annual user conference, eBay Live, also in New Orleans.
