Borland, BEA, Offer eBay Tools for Software Developers

eBay and Borland Software Corporation announced a new relationship that will provide Borland developers with access to tools and resources for creating Web services applications for the eBay and PayPal platforms and communities.

Through a joint distribution agreement, Borland will make the eBay and PayPal Software Development Kits (SDKs) available to Delphi developers. The agreement provides Delphi developers with access to tools and resources that can help them build highly available .NET services. These Web services applications will allow developers to tap into the eBay marketplace as well as PayPal's online payment services.

Separately, BEA Systems Inc. announced the release of BEA WebLogic Workshop Control Pack, a set of freely available packaged and open-source controls designed to help enable developers to easily tap into the Web services capabilities of the Amazon, eBay, Federal Express, Google, PayPal and UPS platforms. To further encourage the growth of innovation and collaboration within the developer community BEA is also sponsoring an open-source community to host, promote, and collaborate on the continuing enhancement of these controls.

"Sites and services like eBay and Amazon are early examples of a new paradigm that can transform the computer industry. These companies provide a service that is rapidly evolving into the next generation foundation for network computing," said Tim O'Reilly, founder and CEO of O'Reilly Media and a leading activist for open-source software and Internet standards. "By open sourcing these controls, BEA opens up great opportunities for those developers who grasp the new paradigm, helping to enable them to use existing web services, and to build interoperable services and applications more quickly and easily."
