A new reality television program aims to be a cross between Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and the Antiques Roadshow with a big dollop of eBay thrown in to the mix. San Francisco Bay Area's KRON 4 television station is teaming up with AuctionDrop, a chain of eBay drop-off stores, to produce the new series.
Each half-hour show will feature two families who let a team of experts into their homes to look for items to sell on eBay. The last segment of each show will reveal the results of the eBay auctions.
Janelle Marie will host the series, tentatively called "The Auction Droppers." KRON 4 is looking for families in the Bay area willing to sell antiques, sporting goods, electronics, designer clothing, jewelry and just about anything else of value. If selected, families must allow experts from AuctionDrop to visit the home looking for items that could net a couple of thousand dollars on eBay. According to the show's producer, part of the fun is when family members can't agree to part with certain items.
The team brings the items back to AuctionDrop, where they research, test, photograph and list the items on eBay in 7-day auctions. At the end of the show, the host will present checks to the families for their items.
Jim Swanson, Executive Producer for KRON 4, said they plan to produce six shows over the summer, with the first one airing at the end of August. He said they are still looking for families who are "fun, energetic and don't mind hamming it up a bit for the cameras."
