Vintage Sports Card Sells for $19,511 on the Bid4Assets Auction Site
By Company-Issued Press Release AuctionBytes.com July 01, 2004
A 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle sports card sold for $19,511 on the Bid4Assets online auction site. The vintage sports card, auctioned by the U.S. Marshals Service, received more than 11,675 page views and soared into overtime before the high bidder was declared the winner.
Jenny Lynch, Bid4Assets VP of Marketing & Corporate-wide Communications said that sports collectors, hobbyists and fans are flooding the auction site as a result of the extensive marketing push for the U.S. Marshals Service and the AJG For Our Father Foundation Charity sports memorabilia auctions. "This is a perfect opportunity for sports memorabilia sellers, especially powersellers, to take advantage of the targeted traffic." Other recent sales include PSA Sports Cards - Personal Collection for $2,580, 1956 Graded 200-209 Baseball Cards for $2,744 and Get Graded Baseball Cards for $405. Because of the increase in sports traffic and the success of recent sports card auctions, Bid4Assets is encouraging other sellers to ride on the coattails of all the exposure the U.S. Marshals Service sports memorabilia auctions are getting. "The U.S. Marshals auctions are getting thousands of page views," reported Jenny Lynch. Bid4Assets told us that its average sell-through rate last week for the collectibles category was 75%. “Besides the high sell-through rates we deliver, there is minimal competition for sellers of like items. This is extremely attractive – sellers want to expose their items to the largest buyer base, and more importantly, to buyers interested in bidding on what they have to offer,” said Jenny Lynch.
All types of sports memorabilia are in demand including sports cards, autographed memorabilia, "game used" items, such as apparel, balls or other equipment and vintage programs, to name a few. They represent all-star athletes such as Muhammad Ali, Willie Mays, Michael Jordan, Joe DiMaggio, Ken Griffey, Jr. and many others. Minimum bids on sports memorabilia auctions currently on the site range from $1 up to $199. There is an official Everlast boxing glove, autographed Muhammad Ali, up on the site with more than 1,780 page views and a current high bid of $355. Having more than 18 bids so early in the auction demonstrates the amount bidding activity the auctions are receiving (this auction is scheduled to close mid-July).
