In 2000, Mitch Maddox changed his name to DotComGuy and stayed in his house for a year, living entirely on items he purchased on the Internet. Sponsors paid him during his sojourn, and he and his Web site garnered worldwide media attention.
Now DotComGuy is up for auction on eBay. Or rather, his domain name and trademark is (http://digbig.com/4bkse).
According to the Web site, DotComGuy "can now maximize the return of this asset" because his confidentiality/non-compete agreement expired three years after the project ended.
Now married, DotComGuy recently changed his name back to Mitch Maddox. His wife, Anne Maddox, is a Dallas designer who specializes in high-end designer pajamas. With her own Web site, annemaddox.com, she may be the real entrepreneur in the family. Mitch's auction, set to end Friday, has a lone bid of $100,000, which does not meet the reserve price set by Maddox. Because the auction is private, the bidder's identity is unknown.
