The AuctionDrop television show we told you about in June (http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y04/m06/i11/s01) is now on the air in the Bay Area of California. San Francisco Bay Area residents can watch the show on station KRON4 on Saturdays at 10:30 am. The second show aired on September 4 and came in second place in viewership behind the U.S. Open.
Each episode features 15 items that AuctionDrop is selling on eBay. AuctionDrop is a chain of eBay drop-off stores. Customers bring items to the stores, and AuctionDrop sells the items on eBay for customers on a consignment basis.
During the show, which is broadcast live, the host and three AuctionDrop employees discuss the items. Taped segments feature AuctionDrop employee Derek, who explains the history of some of the antiques and collectible items for sale. During the show, viewers can log on to eBay and bid on the items, which all end during the show. At the end of the show, the host tells the audience how much the items sold for.
Originally, producers were going to feature families who let AuctionDrop experts into their homes to look for items to sell on eBay. AuctionDrop spokesperson Andrea Roesch said the concept was logistically complicated, and it was difficult to find homes with enough variety of items to reflect the eBay experience.
But AuctionDrop is happy with the new format, and the show is going great, according to Roesch. "We dove right in and people were excited about it from the start."
