Howard A. Schmidt, Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer of eBay, will give the keynote address at the Network Security Conference on Monday. The talk is entitled, "Information Security and Audit: Why They are Two Sides of the Same Coin." The conference is held by Information Systems Audit and Control Association and takes place in Las Vegas September 13-15.
Before joining eBay in 2003, Schmidt was on the U.S. President's Critical Infrastructure Protection Board where he was involved with homeland cyber security. Prior to that position, Schmidt was the Chief Security Officer for Microsoft Corporation where he oversaw the Security Strategies group, and before that, he was a Supervisory Special Agent, Director of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, Computer Forensic Lab and Computer Crime and Information Warfare.
Schmidt helped found a think tank late last year called the Global Council of CSOs (Chief Security Officers), dedicated to enhancing cyber security.
