eBay Scraps New Sign-In Technology

eBay made changes to its Sign-In architecture last week, but had to go back to the old Sign-In feature after some members had problems signing in to the site.

eBay announced on Thursday it would make changes so that the sign-in process would only support Secure Sign In (SSL). But the next day eBay announced it was restoring the old Sign-In feature because some members using the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser were "unable to disable the SSL-related browser popup alerts."

eBay also announced its Stores reporting system had a glitch that indicated a drop in traffic to the Seller's Other Items page. "This was due to issues with Stores Reporting, and not as a result of the new version of Seller's Other Items. eBay's internal reporting system is functioning normally and indicates that traffic to Seller's Other Items is strong and consistent with the volumes reported before the changes made earlier this week." eBay introduced a new version of the Seller's Other Items page last week.

eBay also reported that for 1 hour on Saturday, viewing items, listing, and bidding were intermittently available for the certain categories: Home and Garden, Music, Jewelry & Watches, Books, Toys & Hobbies, and Video Games. No word on what caused the problem.
