eBay Adds Seller Marketing Tool

eBay will introduce an email marketing option that sends buyers periodic emails with listings from their favorite sellers. The "Favorite Seller Digest" will include a sample of the most recent items listed by sellers included in their Favorite Sellers list. Buyers can select whether to receive the email weekly, bi-weekly or monthly (or not at all).

The new feature is significant. eBay has never before had an email marketing tool that directly benefitted individual sellers, though it has created relationships with email marketing companies, and has certified an email marketing service.

In other news, eBay is introducing an optional feature that members can use to customize the information shown on search results and listings pages. Users will be able to add or remove columns on the page. For example, you will be able to choose to display columns containing details such as the item number or shipping cost, right on the search results and listings pages, rather than having to click into every Item page for this information. You can also choose the order in which the columns will appear on the page.

eBay will also introduce a way for sellers to display their return policies on the Item page using a separate section on the Sell Your Item (SYI) form. The new feature will enable sellers to specify:
- whether they accept returns;
- the time period for returning items;
- the type of refund offered to the buyer (for example, exchange, money back, merchant credit, etc.);
- any additional details about the return policy.

Sellers who take advantage of the new feature will have their return policies displayed in a designated section of the Item page. Using this feature is completely optional.
