Mightybids Removes Hoax Auction for Martha Stewart License Plate

Auction site Mightybids.com said it removed an auction for a license plate the seller said was minted by Martha Stewart after it received complaints about the authenticity of the item. Martha Stewart is the domestic diva serving a 5-month prison sentence as she appeals the verdict.

Mightybids spokesperson Peter Michaud said, "Our security team does a great job monitoring the site for contraband or fraud that users may try to post. This is the first time that we've received a complaint of this nature."

Mightybids said the D.C. license plate that bears the identification number C-6660 was posted by an up-state New York radio-show host known for his pranks. Before the auction was pulled from Mightybids, bidding had reached $500.

Michaud said his company is still deciding whether or not they will take legal action against the auction seller for the alleged hoax.
