Overstock Auctions is holding a free listing day on November 24. Sellers will be able to list items on the site without incurring listing fees. Commission fees still apply, see Web site for details and restrictions.
Liquidation site Overstock.com launched the auction service in September with several key differences from the major player, eBay. Overstock has lower listing fees; offers a 10% discount to high-volume sellers; has a "social networking" component for giving feedback to friends and trading partners; and offers 24 hour customer service by phone and email.
Overstock Auction's first free listing day takes place November 24, two days before Black Friday. Retailers call the day after Thanksgiving "Black Friday" because it's one of the biggest shopping days in the U.S. when consumers begin their Christmas shopping. The holiday shopping season will be a critical test for Overstock.com's new auction site.
