AuctionSniper.com is holding a "Free Snipe Day" on eBay on December 28 for new and existing customers. Sniping is the practice of bidding in the final seconds of an online auction to help you win the item for the least amount of money. Because eBay puts a fixed ending-time on auctions, bidders believe they can avoid bidding wars by waiting until the last few seconds of an auction to place their bids.
The practice of sniping is controversial. It is disliked particularly by those new to online auctions who are unaware they may be outbid in the last seconds of an auction by snipers. Those who practice sniping wholeheartedly believe in the fairness and entertainment value of the sniping "sport."
Companies like AuctionSniper and others (http://auctionbytes.com/cab/pages/sniping) have developed services to automate the process of sniping so the sniper does not have to be at their computer when their desired auctions end.
eBay has for the past few years offered sellers a "Free Listing Day" the day after Christmas. If eBay does so this year, there will be fresh inventory loaded onto the site. AuctionSniper's offer applies to all snipes that are entered on December 28 (Pacific time), but the auctions can end anytime.
AuctionSniper said snipes must be entered by midnight PST to apply for the free sniping.
