Reading AuctionBytes: eBay Drops Microsoft Passport Sign-In

eBay will stop supporting the ability for members to sign in to eBay through Microsoft Passport by the end of January. Members who currently use the Microsoft Passport service will have to sign in through eBay directly.

Passport is an authentication system that allows users to sign-in to multiple Passport-member websites with a single password. (http://www.passport.net/Consumer/Default.asp).

eBay said the Microsoft Passport button that is currently displayed on Sign In pages will be replaced with links to a page with more information, including Help for Passport users who cannot remember their eBay User ID or password.

eBay also said it would discontinue sending eBay Notifications through Microsoft .NET alerts and recommended instead eBay Wireless Alerts; the eBay Toolbar; or Certified eBay Solutions.
