Yahoo Inserts 'Sponsored Links' Ads Inside Auction Listings
By Ina Steiner AuctionBytes.com January 12, 2005
Yahoo Auctions has placed "Sponsored Results" inside auction listings posted during its Free Listing Day. The move is "part of a test," according to the Yahoo Auctions announcement:
"As a one-week test, we have added Sponsored Results to items listed on Free Listing Day. This is only a one-week test and will come down on Friday, January 14."
An auction for a Harry Potter Hogwarts School Broom trading card from Wizards of the Coast displays four advertisements for family card games in a box labeled "Sponsored Links" at the bottom of the listing (http://page.auctions.shopping.yahoo.com/auction/88795442?aucview=0x23).
According to Yahoo's Help pages, "Sponsor Results are sites that pay for placement in search results on keywords that are relevant to their business. These listings are provided by Overture Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Yahoo!, and appear on Yahoo! Search results pages and other sections of Yahoo" (http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearch/basics/basics-03.html).
