Online Auction Site SellYourItem Throws in the Towel
By Ina Steiner
EcommerceBytes.com
January 26, 2005

Auction site SellYourItem.com is calling it quits and will close on February 1, 2005. On Tuesday, the SellYourItem.com Announcement Board posted the following statement:

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank our members for their continued support. It is with great sadness we must report, SellYourItem.com will cease operations as of February 1, 2005.

Due to the continued lack of recognition by the OAI community, we are no longer hopeful of growth for our Member Supported Community.

On February 1, the Tech Staff will ensure that all listings and pending relists are ended and that all End of Successful Auction notices are sent to the Sellers and winning Bidders. Our Privacy Policy will continue to protect your personal information which will not be sold or shared in any manner.

The Management and Staff wish you success in growing your online business and thank you all once again for making SellYourItem.com a part of your online auction experience."

Sheila Leverton, the site's owner, confirmed in an email on Tuesday that the site was closing because it was unable to gain a bigger market share in the online auction space.

The site had a loyal following, and many members expressed disappointment over the news.
