Andale Counters Erroneously Display Billions of Hits to eBay Auctions

Over the last week, some eBay sellers began noticing their auctions were getting billions of visitors to some of their listings, according to their auction "counters." Andale provides the counters free to eBay sellers in a longstanding marketing deal with eBay.

The auction listings weren't really receiving billions of hits this week. The cause was a bug in Andale's system that affected Andale's premium counters (Counters Pro). Andale spokesperson Erin Collopy said the bug "corrupted the hit totals for this set of users. We isolated the set of users impacted yesterday and have replaced the corrupted data with our Counters Pro hourly stats database data (with the correct actual counter hits) to correct the problem."

Collopy said the issue has been fixed for all users.
