eBay announced Friday it has made several updates to the Checkout system to help buyers complete payment successfully. The changes involve the Pay Now button, which appears to buyers in several places after they win an item: on the item page; in My eBay; and in the confirmation email from eBay.
eBay updated the display and educational text surrounding the Pay Now button.
When sellers don't accept PayPal and also have their Checkout preferences off, a "Request Total" button will now appear for buyers. If the seller decides to send an invoice to the buyer, a Pay Now button will appear on the listing.
eBay made a change to the Checkout process when a seller's global Checkout preference is set to off. eBay's announcement explained, "Before, sellers that listed with PayPal automatically got Pay Now buttons on their listings, but if the seller's global Checkout preference was set to Off, the Checkout flow would only support payment through PayPal. This caused quite a bit of confusion for buyers of these items who clicked on Pay Now and found they could not pay with all of the seller's listed methods. We have updated Checkout to support all the seller's payment methods whenever Pay Now buttons are displayed."
