Amazon Requires Its Payment Service for Auction Transactions, Limits Sales to $2,500

Amazon is requiring all zShops and Auctions transactions to be paid through Amazon Payments. Because it limits Amazon Payments transactions to $2,500 and under, it will no longer allow Auctions and zShops sales over $2,500. The changes will be rolling out to the site over the coming weeks, but Amazon said effective immediately, customers will no longer be able to purchase items over $2,500 through zShops or Auctions.

Currently Amazon requires all Marketplace transactions to use Amazon Payments. Amazon said it has learned through the Marketplace experience that, "having Amazon manage the payment process from beginning to end ensures both buyers and sellers have a smooth, secure transaction. Shoppers can buy with greater confidence, knowing that their purchase is backed by Amazon's A to Z guarantee, which protects purchases up to $2,500."

Amazon's announcement reminded users it is against its policy to direct buyers away from Amazon transactions, and it prohibits sellers from including text in their item descriptions, such as URLs or email addresses, "that directs buyers away from the Amazon.com order pipeline."
