Reading AuctionBytes: eBay Certifies Instant Messaging Tool from 'Mighty Chat'

eBay has certified "Mighty Chat," a messaging tool for eBay buyers and sellers. The Mighty Chat tool allows instant messaging within auction screens, enabling users to cross-communicate at will. Messages are archived and displayed throughout the life of an auction.

Sellers selectively place the Mighty Chat interface in their eBay listing to initiate global communications with potential buyers. A private chat community grows with a common interest - the auction. Sellers instill confidence by answering questions, and buyers review the answers for credibility. Buyers can then use a dynamic FAQ to search out questions/answers during an auction or after it closes.

Buyers gain an enhanced interest, a sense of assurance that may spark higher bidding. Buyers can pose questions, and sellers answer questions one time for everyone to see. Mighty Chat can also help eBay fight fraud. Chat logs, including key statistics, are archived and made available to eBay for analysis and evidentiary purposes.

This new service streamlines the eBay process by saving time, discouraging fraud, and emulating near-conventional auctioneering. The system indirectly heightens interest in the bidding process, qualifies the seller's integrity and provides a history of communications in the interest of all.
