New Anti-Fraud Site Launches for Online Auction Users

ReportAuctionFraud.com is a new site that allows registered users to search a live database of fraud data in order to see if a match exists for either the buyer or seller involved with a particular online auction item.

Registered users can also add their own fraud data to the database, helping to keep the system up-to-date. Each fraud search costs just 50p, and adding fraud data is free of charge. The system is free of charge to all police forces.

Access to Report Auction Fraud is only available to registered users who are authorized to use the system. The company says the fraud database contains the details of individuals who have committed auction fraud. Users have the ability to search on different criteria; name, email address, telephone number, postal code, username and auction item number. By searching the database, a user can find out if a match exists for the buyer or seller who they are interacting with. If a successful match is identified then the user is encouraged to only proceed with extreme caution. If no match is found, then the user can choose to have the system alert them automatically via email or text if the search criteria are matched in the future.

The company behind this new scheme is Early Warning (UK) Ltd, who currently run the CardAware database, a similar scheme that helps retailers to prevent losses from CNP (card-not-present) credit-card fraud.

Early Warning (UK) Ltd said the system is fully compliant with current UK Data Protection legislation, and individuals who feel the database contains incorrect data about themselves may apply in writing to see full details of all personal information held.
