After only two months since its launch, Artprice's new marketplace for artwork continues to boom, the company said in a press release Thursday. In March, Artprice's Classified Ads section counted 450,000 visitors. At the beginning of April 2005, over 5,000 works by almost 4,000 artists were up for sale every day on this marketplace.
Artprice's Classified Ads section includes all market segments from old masters art to modern and contemporary art, and covers all price ranges. The priciest works on offer include an oil painting by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec that has been on offer since 5 April for EUR 3.7 million and a large "dripping" by Jackson Pollock for $4 million. Half the ads post prices below the EUR 3,000 mark.
The standardized Classified Ads, which do not involve any additional fees or commissions, has reduced transaction times from several months to just a few days. When prices are affordable, transactions are often carried out rapidly, according to the company.
