CityXpress Corp. announced Tribune Interactive and Classified, a division of Tribune Company, has chosen its eMarketplaceXpress platform to host the expansion of its Los Angeles-based Recycler.com to 12 additional cities.

The expanded Recycler.com sites feature an online comparison tool that allows users to preview selected listings from other sites, including local newspaper listings and listings from other online classified Web sites, and "Browse and Buy" ecommerce functionality to facilitate buyer-seller transactions.

The Recycler.com site will offer sellers several different packages, such as a free 50-character headline, 2,000-character description, one main photo and one additional photo listing for 14 days. Other packages offer value-added features such as additional photos and e-commerce functionality for an additional fee.

eMarketplaceXpress enables newspapers to create free and low-cost online classified marketplaces in order to compete directly in their local markets with free-listing services. Features include online ad-taking and payment options, ecommerce transaction capabilities, vendor storefronts, browse and proximity search capabilities, and a listing feedback system.

"eMarketplaceXpress' ecommerce features and ability to build a comparison tool made it a good fit for our Recycler.com expansion," said Julianna Cole, Tribune Interactive and Classified vice president/merchandise and classified technology. "CityXpress has been a great company to work with and is helping us provide consumers with a fun, flexible online shopping experience."

"Free online sites are having an impact on newspapers' classified revenues and many publishers are exploring new ways to expand their classified offerings," said Phil Dubois, president and CEO of CityXpress.

Tribune debuted Recycler.com in New York, Baltimore, Dallas, Houston, Seattle, St. Louis, Indianapolis, New Orleans and Allentown, Pa. in early May. The company will roll out Recycler.com to Chicago, Orlando and Hartford in the coming weeks.
