eBay announced additional details about its fourth annual eBay Live conference being held in its hometown of San Jose, California on June 23 - 25. The company will throw its 10-year anniversary gala at the Santa Clara Convention Center on Saturday evening, featuring a private concert with the band The B-52's.
eBay is throwing another bash in Santa Clara on the preceding evening, June 24. It has rented Paramount's Great America, a 100-acre amusement park and will feed conference-goers a barbecue dinner. San Jose Convention and Visitors Bureau will run free shuttle buses between San Jose and Santa Clara on Friday and Saturday night.
Originally eBay planned to hold the Saturday gala at San Jose's convention center in an 80,000-square-foot
semi-permanent tent the city is erecting for use by convention center occupants (http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y05/m01/i11/s03). Instead, eBay will use the tent for storage, employee dining and child care, according to the San Jose Business Journal (http://sanjose.bizjournals.com/sanjose/stories/2005/05/02/story1.html).
The eBay Live conference itself will be held at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center and features classes, question-and-answer sessions with eBay executives, an exhibit hall, and opportunities to network with other attendees. eBay President and CEO Meg Whitman is scheduled to give her annual keynote address on Thursday evening this year at the HP Pavilion, followed by entertainment.
eBay is hosting a developers conference immediately preceding eBay Live (http://www.ebaydevcon.com).
Previous eBay Live conferences were held in Anaheim (2002), Orlando (2003) and New Orleans (2004) and Berlin, Germany (2003). eBay Germany cancelled its plans for an eBay Live convention in Duesseldorf, Germany, originally scheduled for May 27 - 28 of this year. It has been postponed until the first half of 2006.
