eBay UK Permits Sale of LIVE 8 Charity Tickets

eBay UK posted an announcement to let users know it is permitting the sale of LIVE 8 concert tickets on eBay.co.uk. It will make a donation to the LIVE 8 charity "at least equivalent to the fees we collect from the sale of LIVE 8 tickets," stating in the announcement that it didn't want to profit from the sale of the tickets. "We are allowing the sale of tickets because we believe that people can make up their own minds about what they buy and sell. The reselling of charity concert tickets is not illegal under English law and eBay believes it is a fundamental right for someone to be able to sell something that is theirs whether they paid for it or won it in a competition."

LIVE 8 concerts are being organized to press world leaders to fight African poverty at next month's G8 summit. The Scotsman newspaper reports that concert organizers urged sellers to withdraw the lots from eBay immediately and return any profits already made to Live 8 (http://news.scotsman.com/latest.cfm?id=4686740).
