Meg and Pierre celebrated eBay's 10-year anniversary Saturday evening at the Santa Clara Convention Center. After ceremoniously cutting a large sheet cake, they hugged to celebrate what has been a successful partnership.
Pierre Omidyar started eBay in 1995, and he recruited CEO Meg Whitman to run the company in 1998. The company has since become one of the most successful ecommerce sites, and eBay celebrated its 10-year mark at its fourth annual user convention last week.
Thousands of conference attendees were bused from San Jose to the Santa Clara Convention Center Satuday evening where they were served food and drink and entertained by a comedian and musical bands Bering Strait and the B-52s.
The evening marked the end of a 3-day conference in which eBayers attended classes, executive panels and labs, visited an exhibit hall with services geared to online buyers and sellers, and collected pins and trading cards. eBay told attendees 11,600 people had registered for the event.
Whitman announced at Saturday's gala celebration that next year's conference would take place in Las Vegas. Unconfirmed sources say the event will begin June 13 at the Mandalay Bay conference center.
