The Federal Trade Commission has granted the eBay - Shopping.com transaction through early termination. According to the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act, the Justice Department has 30 days to evaluate proposed acquisitions to decide to investigate further. eBay told the Associated Press the waiting period expired on Monday, allowing the deal to go through.
eBay announced June 1st it would acquire the comparison shopping site (http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y05/m06/i01/s04).
eBay now owns real estate in every segment of the ecommerce industry around the world, from the auction and fixed-price marketplaces on eBay; ecommerce hosting services (ProStores); payment processing (PayPal); classifieds sites (Rent.com, Kijiji and others, and a stake in Craiglist); and now a shopping portal.
