eBay auction-management service Vendio sent an email to customers asking them to sign up for a beta version of the Dealio comparison-shopping toolbar. Vendio's announcement to customers said Dealio currently focuses on consumer electronics but will rapidly expand to other product categories.
Vendio wouldn't comment, but the Dealio website said "Dealio is brought to you by the same people behind Vendio Services, Inc."
Vendio provides auction-management and web-hosting services to small eBay sellers. Vendio was launched in 1998 under the name AuctionWatch, which introduced a search engine to aggregate listings from eBay and other auction sites. It abandoned the search tool after battling eBay along with other such tools, including Bidder's Edge (http://news.com.com/2100-1040-232464.html?legacy=cnet).
eBay is acquiring comparison-shopping service Shopping.com in the third quarter.
