CampusAdTrader launched in beta mode as an online-auction marketplace for buying and selling print, online and classified advertising in U.S. college newspapers.
"We're excited about CampusAdTrader," said Matthew Farlie, Director of Business Development for Collegiate Presswire, CampusAdTrader's corporate parent. "It will help our core base of subscribing newspapers sell ad space online and generate additional ad revenue while reducing their sales costs. For advertisers, it offers convenience and efficiency by allowing them to deal directly with the newspapers and eliminating the middleman."
The new service derives its revenue in two ways, through commissions from participating newspapers on all ad space sold through the website, and through a membership fee ($25 per user) for media buyers and advertising professionals who wish to bid through the service. All media buyer membership fees, however, are being waived through December 31, 2005 as a promotion to drive site traffic.
