Abebooks Markets Textbooks with Sony, Microsoft and AllPosters

Online marketplace Abebooks.com will be targeting students in August and September with a textbook marketing promotion called "Get Smart," an original multi-stream initiative that includes support from Sony Music, Microsoft and Allposters.com. Get Smart will reach two million American college students over an 8-week period during fall's back-to-school season with the message that "Abebooks.com is the best online source for new and used textbooks at unbeatable prices."

Sony Music, Microsoft and Allposters.com will receive exposure through:

  • In pack collateral: 250,000 coupon booklets, offering special deals, inserted into textbook packages mailed directly to students from major textbook sellers participating in Get Smart;

  • On campus: 400,000 coupon booklets handed out by Abebooks' street teams on 36 US campuses at the start of term along with 18,000 posters featuring tear-away slips;

  • Online exposure on the Abebooks websites, which attract one million visitors each week, and its dedicated Textbook Central section, plus an email marketing campaign.

The promotion offers students the chance to win weekly prizes, including a Tablet PC courtesy of Microsoft, five $100 gift certificates from Allposters.com, 20 CDs from SonyBMG Masterworks, and three Apple iPods. Students can log on to www.abebooks.com to enter. No purchase is necessary.

Sony Music is using Get Smart to promote Yo-Yo Ma's latest release, Silk Road Journeys: Beyond The Horizon, while Microsoft is promoting its Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 software with a 60-day free trial. Allposters.com is raising awareness about its 300,000 posters, prints, and framing services. Textbook sellers participating in the Get Smart promotion include A1Books.com and Better World Books.
