Craigslist Founder Warns of Scammer
By Ina Steiner

Craig Newmark, founder of classifieds site Craigslist, posted a warning on his blog of a possible spoof site. "Just to let people know in a hurry, the site www.pay-craigslist.org has no relation to us, and we're escalating dramatically now," Newmark posted on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, a Chicago Craigslist user posted, "Has anyone heard of or used pay-craigslist.org. This guy tells me that it's an affiliate pay system used by craigslisters." Another user replied with a suggestion to stay away, posting a screenshot of the site (http://chicago.craigslist.org/mcy/88619989.html).

The domain pay-craigslist.org was registered on July 20, 2005, and was not live on Wednesday evening. In an email, Newmark said it looked like the site was scraping the Craigslist site.
