CityXpress Corp. announced the winners of its biannual Golden Auction Awards. CityXpress gives the awards to its newspaper clients that conduct the most successful auctions. The company works with newspapers to stage local auctions through its hosted software and on-site sales and customer support services.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution staged the top-performing single U.S. auction and the first U.S. auction to generate more than $1 million in revenue using CityXpress. Other outstanding individual results from the winning newspapers include The Windsor Star, which sold 72 percent of the products in its auction, and The Kleine Zeitung, which sold 81 percent. The Oklahoman, a two-time Golden Auction Award in the 125,000 - 250,000 circulation band, generated revenue of $514,581 and acquired 88 new or dormant advertisers out of 150 participating vendors.
"CityXpress' auctions have been a great way for us to not only generate strong revenue numbers, but acquire new advertisers, which is of significant importance to any newspaper," said Chris Reen, advertising director for The Oklahoman. "The great success of our first two auctions has really demonstrated to us that this is a program that works, and is valuable to our newspaper and our community."
Newspaper auctions are online events staged by newspapers with goods and services provided by local retailers in exchange for exposure through the auction and advertising credits that are earned if the retailer's items sell. Auctions typically take place during a 10-day period.
All newspapers that conduct a CityXpress auction are eligible for the biannual awards, which are based on auctions held between January and June and between July and December.
