Craigslist, eBay Members Offer Hurricane Assistance and Merchandise
By Ina Steiner AuctionBytes.com August 31, 2005
Victims of Hurricane Katrina and good Samaritans are finding ways to connect on classifieds site Craigslist. In the New Orleans general community section, there are offers of shelter from as far away as Connecticut (http://neworleans.craigslist.org/ccc). Pleas for assistance in locating loved ones have been posted in the "Lost and Found" section (http://neworleans.craigslist.org/laf/).
A search on eBay for Hurricane Katrina reveals lots of Tshirts, some charity auctions, and Internet domain names like NewOrleansKatrina.com and KatrinaReliefFund.org. (eBay listings with a ribbon icon next to the title indicate a percentage of the sale will go to charity.)
eBay reminded users on Monday to have patience with trading partners located in the Southeast part of the United States. Hurricane Katrina made landfall in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama on Monday and has left devastation and destruction in its wake.
