Representing more than 2,000 corporate members, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has joined forces with eBay's Rethink Initiative to promote reuse and recycling as key steps in the technology purchase process.
eBay launched Rethink in January to address the problem of unused or obsolete computers that may pose environmental hazards when disposed of in landfills. Intel, Apple, Gateway, HP, IBM and Ingram Micro along with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the non-profit Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition, UPS and the U.S. Postal Service, are among participants in the program.
At the Rethink site, individuals can take advantage of two core resources: education and disposition tools. The CEA is a trade association promoting growth in the consumer technology industry through technology policy, events, research, promotion and the fostering of business and strategic relationships.
