CheckFree Discontinues Auction Payments Service for eBay Sellers

Next month CheckFree will discontinue its Auction Payments Service, which it had targeted at eBay sellers. The company launched the payment service at eBay's conference in June 2003. The service allows buyers to settle eBay purchases directly from their checking or money market accounts using CheckFree's existing electronic billing and payment services.
CheckFree Public Relations Director David Fontaine said, "The auction payment service was well received by auction sellers because the funds were guaranteed. Ultimately, CheckFree determined that a dedicated auction payment service offered little incremental benefit to buyers and sellers who can already settle auction purchases using CheckFree's existing pay anyone bill payment services through various banks, brokerage firms, credit unions and other financial management sites."
