Lawrence Lessig Part of Amicus Brief in eBay Supreme Court Case
By Ina Steiner AuctionBytes.com October 07, 2005
Stanford Law School professor Lawrence Lessig joined 34 other patent law scholars in filing an amicus brief in support of eBay's petition for a writ of certiorari in the Supreme Court. eBay wants the high court to review the Federal Circuit ruling relating to the MercExchange patent case.
In 2003, a federal jury found eBay guilty of patent infringement and ordered eBay to pay $35 million in damages, but the judge denied MercExchange's request for an injunction against eBay. On appeal, the Federal Circuit reversed the district court's ruling to deny a permanent injunction against eBay.
