Amazon is allowing users access to over 3 years of sales data for books, music, videos, and DVDs as sold by third-party sellers on Amazon.com. The Amazon Historical Pricing web service gives developers access to the data through web services. Amazon said sellers can use Amazon Historical Pricing to make informed decisions on pricing and purchasing. The program returns the average, minimum, maximum, and median price for items with a sales history so users can examine pricing trends.
The monthly subscription fee is $499 for up to 20,000 requests per month, or $999 for up to 60,000 requests per month. Users may not resell or redistribute the content in any way without Amazon.com's written approval.
eBay has a similar market-data license program (http://developer.ebay.com/programs/marketdata).
