PayPal Introduces Merchant Gift Certificates
By Ina Steiner

PayPal announced that merchants who accept PayPal can now offer online gift certificates to their customers. Online businesses of all sizes can set up customized gift certificates, offering their customers more choice when shopping for family and friends.

Merchants can publish "Buy a Gift Certificate" buttons on their websites and pay no startup costs or extra fees. Gift certificates can be customized to match the look and feel of merchant Web sites and to meet specific business needs.

Merchant Gift Certificates can be redeemed only for merchandise sold by the merchant. The recipient of a gift certificate clicks the seller's Shopping URL to begin shopping and simply click or enter their redemption code during checkout.

Merchants in the US, UK, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland can offer gift certificates in the six different currencies that PayPal offers - US Dollars, Pounds Sterling, Canadian Dollars, Australian Dollars, Euros and Japanese Yen.

PayPal offers account management tools to help merchants access, download and print reports for gift certificate purchases and redemptions. Merchants can decide the denomination options that a customer can select, and proceeds from the sale of gift certificates will be moved into the merchant's available balance at the time of redemption.
