Reading AuctionBytes: Suspected Rapist Bought Gear on eBay

The New York Daily News reports that the suspect in a sadistic 13-hour Halloween sex attack bought items on eBay using the nickname "gulagmeister" in the weeks leading up to the attack, including a fire jacket and bunker pants, a Detroit police badge and an official-looking badge holder. The rapist posed as a New York City fire fighter to gain entrance to the victim's apartment.

The newspaper reported earlier this month that eBay had confirmed it was working with the New York Police Department on the case (http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/364848p-310709c.html).

eBay does not permit the listing of law enforcement badges or official law enforcement equipment, according to the site (http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/police.html). A trading partner of gulagmeister currently has an authentic "bail enforcement officer" badge and a leather badge holder for sale.

Police have not been able to locate the suspect, who disappeared after the attack.
