Reading AuctionBytes: eBay Names New Chief Technology Officer

eBay announced that Matt Carey will join the company as Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President for eBay Marketplaces, effective February 1, 2006. Carey will report to John Donahoe, President of eBay Marketplaces, and succeeds Lynn Reedy, who announced in October her intention to leave eBay. Reedy was most recently CTO of eBay Marketplaces Product & Technology.

Carey comes to eBay from Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., where he was Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. He currently serves on advisory boards for Hewlett-Packard, Dell Computer and IBM. Walmart named Carey's replacement on Wednesday.

Walmart.com's senior vice president of merchandising and marketing, Carter Cast, left Walmart to work for eBay this Spring and returned 4 months later to become president of Walmart.com.
