Reading AuctionBytes: eBay Developer Gets Negative Feedback from Users

A company called e-Pro Auction has been the recipient of some "negative feedback" from eBay users. Visitors who've signed up for a free guide from e-Pro Auction have complained in eBay discussion forums about unauthorized charges on their credit cards and receiving phone calls from aggressive salespeople asking for detailed financial information. A few posters reported having a positive experience with the company.

e-Pro Auction calls itself an eBay Certified Developer on its website (https://www.e-proauction.com/cgi-bin/enroll.i?url=abonus2). This is a designation eBay has done away with, and eBay's Solution Directory lists the company as an eBay Compatible Solution.

eBay made two responses in a 5-page thread of complaints. An eBay moderator clarified what it means to be an eBay compatible application. He also stated, "If you have questions or complaints regarding third-party software or service providers, you need to bring those up directly with the vendor."

An e-Pro Auction page that offered the free success kit (on December 31, 2005) did not indicate users were signing up for monthly charges when requesting the kit, though the page did include the following: "BONUS: Your kit includes a FREE 14-Day Trial to E-Pro Auction, the leading software already used by thousands of eBay sellers."

In very small font in the footer at the bottom of the page underneath the copyright notice is a link, "Terms and Conditions of Free EBAY Success Kit." There, it mentions monthly charges and includes the warning, "Any charge backs or disputes that do not comply with the refund policy will be aggressively fought."

The e-Pro Auction Success Kit, according to the site, "is a collection of the best buying, selling and marketing secrets performed on eBay today. These techniques are compiled from numerous successul eBay power sellers and can help you earn thousands of dollars per week - quickly and easily."

e-Pro Auction has an unsatisfactory record with the Better Business Bureau Serving Utah according to the bureau's website (http://www.saltlakecity.bbb.org/commonreport.html?bid=22009691), where it said 48 complaints were received in the last year; 44 of those complaints were resolved, 1 was unresolved, and in 3 cases, the company failed to respond to the Better Business Bureau or the consumer to resolve the issues.

Some eBay users have complained about e-Pro Auction on eBay's Solution Directory pages, where the company rates 1.5 out of a possible 5 points.

e-Pro Auctions did not respond to AuctionBytes inquiries made by phone, email and fax by press time. eBay did not return calls seeking comment by press time.
