Antiques & Collectibles Site Reveals Interesting Trends for 2005
By Lissa McGrath

During 2005, there were 27 times more U.S. buyers of antiques and collectibles from Tias' U.S.-based antiques sites than any international country. This is according to end-of-year reports from Tias.com, provider of an ecommerce hub for 750 merchants, boasting approximately 190,000 unique customers each day.

It isn't surprising to see the U.S. at the top of the list, or the U.K. as number two, but would you expect Japan to come in at number three ahead of Canada? Or Australia at number five?

Within the U.S., the state originating the most online sales during 2005 was California, followed by New York, with Texas a close third.

Jewelry, Glass, China & Dinnerware and Comics all made the top five categories by both sales volume and dollar value. The only additions were Advertising to the top five by volume (fourth place) and Porcelain and Pottery to the top 5 by dollar value (fourth place).

Tias.com's December 2005 "Hot List" shows the most searched terms on a variety of specialist antiques and collectibles websites:
