MercExchange announced that its TeslaToolkits now support Google Base. MercExchange is locked in a legal battle with eBay over MercExchange's auction patents (the companies will argue before the Supreme Court over whether a judge should issue an injunction against eBay).
MercExchange's online-auction tools now provide automated bulk-listing support for the Google beta product. "In our year-long dialogue with the Web's leading auction sellers, we found that most want a broader competitive landscape," said inventor Thomas G. Woolston, a principal and founder of MercExchange. "Google Base is the most promising competitive development in the Web marketplace, and our TeslaToolkits are a valuable alternative for sellers who are integrating this new channel."
Google Base, still in test mode, allows anyone to submit content in a database format, such as cars for sale. There's been much speculation about how Google Base will affect classifieds sites and ecommerce marketplaces, and some conjecture Google might use the service to compete with eBay.
Woolston said the MercExchange listing tool is currently free on a per-user basis and can be used in conjunction with other auction-management and listing tools. Altitude Capital recently invested "substantial millions" in MercExchange to recapitalize the company.
