Local online classifieds site LiveDeal.com launched its Canadian counterpart, LiveDeal.ca through its joint venture with Torstar Corporation and its online unit, Torstar Digital. The venture will provide Canadians with a new online marketplace to buy and sell goods on a local and national level.
Like other classified websites, LiveDeal.ca enables buyers and sellers to meet in person and "try before they buy" and can be ideal for buying and selling bulky or big-ticket items such as furniture, cars, pets and major appliances.
Simon Jennings joined the company as General Manager of LiveDeal.ca from Yahoo Canada where he gained 15 years of Internet and online advertising experience. Jennings stated in a press release, "Local ecommerce is the next wave of the Internet, and LiveDeal.ca and Torstar are leading the charge, leveraging the power of the Internet to enhance classifieds. It is reinvigorating the category and will change the way that Canadians shop online."
Canadians can access LiveDeal.ca through www.livedeal.ca or through the online classified sites of The Toronto Star, the Hamilton Spectator, The Record and the Guelph Mercury, which are powered by LiveDeal.ca.
The launch follows the October $4.85 million investment in LiveDeal.com led by TorStar Corporation, which took a minority stake in LiveDeal.
Last week, LiveDeal.com unveiled a targeted local advertising program called LiveDeal AdTarget that connects marketers with relevant members of LiveDeal's growing community of more than one million users in cities and towns across the U.S.
