GoAntiques has been marketing its antiques and collectibles pricing-tool to libraries, and this week is exhibiting at the American Library Association's Mid-Winter Conference in Texas.
PriceMiner for Libraries enables public, private and specialty libraries to offer their patrons access to a research database of more than 23 million records and 10 million images going back eight years and covering 5,200 categories and subcategories in art, antiques and collectibles. The pricing data comes from eBay, Tias.com and GoAntiques and presents historical pricing information, photos and descriptions for the same or similar items.
"Library patrons regularly ask for help in identifying and pricing art, antiques and collectibles," said Jim Kamnikar, president and CEO of GoAntiques.com. "We tailored a version of our PriceMiner research tool to the specific needs of library users. Identification is always the first step in pricing an antique, and our 10 million images provide an unprecedented resource to users." Searches can be organized by lowest to highest price, highest to lowest price or only items with images or for similar items.
OhioNet, a 25-year-old non-profit library membership organization offering a variety of administrative and technical services to libraries in Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania; and NEBase, a similar organization for libraries in Nebraska, are using the service.
