AuctionVideo published a press release on January 19, 2006, apologizing to Daily Herald, NTT-DATA SANYO, the market and news organizations for "the trouble that has been caused" by an article that ran in the January 10 Daily Herald (http://www.heraldextra.com/content/view/159442).
That article appears to be based on a press release issued by another company on January 5 that announced AuctionVideo's "one touch upload" capability was a key feature of the new Sanyo VideoCellphone unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (http://www.marketwire.com/mw/release_html_b1?release_id=105438).
Greg Ellis, AuctionVideo founder and CEO, said the January 19th press release containing the apology was real but he was unable to comment on the matter (http://www.emediawire.com/releases/2006/1/emw334100.htm).
The January 19th press release cites five facts from the news article that are false, and Ellis is quoted saying, "I deeply apologize for the afore-mentioned Daily Herald article being absolutely not based on any facts. In the future, in order that this sort of information doesn't cause harm to the market and news organizations, we will take the utmost caution regarding information disclosure."
NOTE: AuctionBytes published facts from the original press announcement on January 9 (http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y06/m01/i09/s02). Thanks to Pete at the AuctionMethod blog for letting us know about the January 19th press release.
