|
After more than four months, vehicles damaged by the floodwaters following Hurricane Katrina and Rita may be showing up for sale around the country. Carfax issued a statement warning consumers, and stating that scam artists recently cleaned up fourteen waterlogged wrecks, altered the titles and tried to sell them through a California auction yard. "Similar sales are likely to occur across the country over the next few months," according to the statement. Carfax is offering free Carfax Flood Checks and advisory noting any vehicle last registered in a FEMA disaster area for both hurricanes. It's estimated that more than 571,000 cars were damaged in the storms.
