Online bookselling site Abebooks.com has acquired FillZ, a US book inventory and order management company that helps booksellers list their books on online marketplaces. FillZ provides booksellers with access to 10 online marketplaces for books including Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, eBay Stores, Abebooks.com, Alibris.com and Half.com. Its Web-based technology allows sellers to upload their book inventory once and manage updates once rather than having to replicate the actions for every marketplace.
In November, 2005, Abebooks acquired BookFinder.com, a leading price comparison shopping site for books. Like BookFinder.com, FillZ will continue to operate independently but have access to Abebooks resources to encourage growth.
Miron Cuperman, who is based in San Francisco, initially developed the technology behind FillZ to help a friend who was having difficulty loading her book inventory on to several marketplaces simultaneously. FillZ was incorporated in June 2004 and last year it facilitated orders for books worth more than $20 million on behalf of its clients.
"Sites like Amazon, eBay, and Abebooks have different requirements for sellers," said Hannes Blum, CEO and president of Abebooks. "FillZ makes it extremely simple for booksellers to overcome the fragmented nature of the market. We're aware of their international potential and what they can offer to booksellers around the world."
Abebooks.com has over 80 million new, used, rare, and out-of-print titles listed for sale by more than 13,500 independent booksellers from around the world. Millions of customers purchase up to 25,000 books a day from Abebooks' five global websites.
