Yahoo is making available its Shopping API for commercial applications. The Shopping API features product search, price comparison, ratings & reviews, and shopping browse. The program is currently in limited beta testing. Yahoo will allow websites to share in income generated from providing shopping search and other services powered by Yahoo Shopping on their sites.
Yahoo said the API can be used by developers of such services as local shopping mash-ups or next generation social commerce destinations, or by content sites wanting to integrate shopping comparison features. In addition to the Shopping API, Yahoo is releasing three other APIs intended to enable developers to use and build upon technology from Yahoo Photos, Calendar and MyWeb.
Additionally, the Yahoo Developer Network is launching an Application Gallery (available at http://gallery.yahoo.com), a one-stop site for consumers to discover applications that developers have built using Yahoo technology. The Application Gallery will provide a centralized location for established and new applications across Yahoo properties such as Maps, Flickr, Yahoo! Music Engine and Search.
