Google Checkout Rumored

According to ZDnet's Google blog, an agent acting on behalf of Google registered the domains googlecheckout.net, .org and .info (http://blogs.zdnet.com/Google/?p=208). Fueling speculation about what "Google Checkout" might mean is the fact that the domains were registered on the same day eBay and Yahoo announced their partnership in which Yahoo will make PayPal the exclusive third-party provider of its online wallet.

It was about this time last year that rumors were flying over Google's planned payment service (http://auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y05/m06/i20/s05).

Since then, Google has rolled out Google Base (http://auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y05/m11/i16/s01) and has made announcements about what looks like "Google Payments" (http://auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y06/m02/i27/s02).
