Online auction site LabX announced the registration of its 100,000th member on Tuesday, quadrupling its membership base since 2000. The scientific-equipment marketplace offers dynamic auctions and fixed-price classified ads.
Benjamin Klett of Obiter Research LLC was the 100,000th member to register with LabX. The team at Obiter Research, which manufactures rare and exotic fine chemicals, was looking for laboratory casework and benches to outfit the expansion of its new lab facility.
Klett found LabX on the Internet and began his search. When asked if he had success finding the furniture he sought, Klett said with enthusiasm, "Oh yeah! We've found lots of listings already." Citing the easy-to-navigate website, Klett and Obiter Research owner Dr. William Boulanger said they were incredibly pleased with the service LabX provided and plan to purchase new and used lab equipment from LabX again in the future.
LabX said 51 percent of Fortune 500 companies are represented on LabX, and over 10,000 new members have registered since January 2006. LabX is in the midst of expanding its office facilities again to support the growth in membership and will add more employees in 2006.
LabX President Bob Kafato said, "We just keep growing and growing, and there are no signs of slowing down. With the addition of new equipment to our regular used equipment business model, we truly are the first place to look for scientific, medical, and industrial products."
